It was actually rather simple to evaluate the EVGs critically. Hopefully
CAs do so regularly, in their quest to ensure EV is meaningful.

If your conclusion from James' work is that it requires a determined person
with money and time to get an EV certificate with false information in it,
then I'm afraid there's not much point of discussion. I would say that,
both by empirical demonstration about the inherent flaws and through the
textual analysis of the requirements, your claims of complexity,
difficulty, expense and time are not supported - and have never been.

It may be that you're unwilling or unable to accept this, perhaps due to
evaluating through your lens of business practices rather than technical
requirements, or shaded by a knowledge of US-centric jurisprudence, but
when you look at the systemic controls and reality, I don't believe you've
given any compelling evidence to support your conclusion.

I'm suggesting that it's deeply logically flawed to ascribe security value
to the system with an incomplete threat-model and a woefully inadequate
analysis of the practical differences (between DV and EV in terms of web
security and DV and EV in terms of adversarial validation). Understanding
the set of threats attempting to be mitigated is vital to understanding the
sufficiency to task, and certificates, as a means of ensuring communication
to the specified domain name, are completely adequate for that task -
whether DV or EV - but are completely incapable of addressing risks such as
phishing, malware, or 'fly by night' - also whether DV or EV.
