Thank you Ben.

Do you believe “Option 1” for precerts complies with RFC 5280, or do we need to add an exemption to RFC 5280 compliance in the CA/Browser Forum Baseline Requirements.

This has created quite a dilemma for CAs, and we’d like some guidance or clarity.

CAs have been told that they must implement CT by January 1, 2015, and there is little time left to complete engineering if this deadline is to be met. Also, the IETF group working on RFC 6962 (which is still “experimental” with “errata”) has not yet completed specifications around precerts.

I should observe the the working group is working on the _successor_ to RFC 6962. RFC 6962 itself is done - the error is minor, and essentially resloved here: http://www.rfc-editor.org/errata_search.php?rfc=6962. Everything you need to know about precerts for the January deadline is nailed down.
